A historical seizure of drugs was carried out on June 26th, 2015 in Cadiz province, when the Algeciras harbour Guardia Civil services confiscated 48 tons of cannabis resin, hidden in two semitrailers arriving from Tangiers (Morocco). Both drivers were arrested. Investigations continue in order to identify the protagonists of the international network and the final destination of the drug.
This police operation has been described as “historical” since it is the most important quantity of cannabis seized by land on the Spanish territory ever.
So far this year, Guardia Civil has confiscated more than 160 tons of hashish and 950 kilos of cocaine in Andalusia. Between 2014 and 2015, Guardia Civil has dismantled 126 criminal organizations involved in drug trafficking in this area.
In 2014, Algeciras harbour facilities exceeded 95 million metric tons of merchandise, 5 million passengers, almost 27,000 ships docked and about a million and a half vehicles.
