This action shows the progress made in the field of security in this country resulting from the training and guidance provided by members of the Rapid Action Group (GAR) of Guardia Civil to members of the National Gendarmerie of Senegal.
In the framework of the exercise FLINTLOCK 16 that is taking place in Senegal, members of the GAR, along with members of the National Gendarmerie of Senegal, seized an arsenal of weapons including four shotguns, two rifles with telescopic sights, several cold steel weapons, various types of ammunition and amounts of money of dubious origin.
The incident took place in the Senegalese city of Saint Louis, at highway N-II from Dakar (Senegal) to Nouakchott (Mauritania), while conducting an operation in the public road. Forces of the Surveillance and Intervention Unit of the National Senegalese Gendarmerie proceeded to the seizure of the weapons. This type of operation, previously unknown for the member of the Senegalese Gendarmerie, was found to be very effective.
This action reflects the progress made as a result of the training and guidance provided by the GAR to the members of the National Gendarmerie of Senegal, aimed at fighting the present threats in the Sahel area, where many violent extremist groups have proliferated.
Military assistance provided to the Security Forces of other countries, as the ongoing one in the framework of the exercise FLINTLOCK 16, has been planned and led by the Special Operations Joint Command, with the participation of special operations units of Guardia Civil and the three branches of the military forces (Army, Navy and Air). Its goal is to develop the capacities of the Security Forces in those countries.
